Yumeka Caldwell

Officer Jeff
Miller states that Yumeka has changed from a student who faced
significant difficulties during the last school year to a very
happy and dedicated student. In the past she was always skipping
classes and leaving school. She disrupted classrooms and failed to
set goals for herself. This year, she always has a smile on her
face and has made strides in her school performance, both
academically and socially. This positive success story is an
example of Doing The Right Thing.

Alyssa Cochran
5th Grade Lincoln Heights ES
Dr. Datta
states that Alyssa has taken on the awesome responsibility to
mentor a fellow student at her school. The fellow student has
Downe's Syndrome and Alyssa demonstrates her maturity level by
assisting the student while at school. Dr. Datta goes on to state
that Alyssa demonstrates her compassion and consideration by the
giving of her energy and time to the fellow student. Alyssa even
goes out of her way while at church to spend time and assist the
student. I want to thank you Alyssa for Doing The Right Thing.

Morgan Grubbs
4th Grade Lincoln Heights ES
Mrs.
Thompson states that several weeks ago a wonderful event occurred
in her classroom. When passing back a recent test she handed
Morgan her test. Morgan had studied very hard and was very eager
to make an "A" on the test, however, much to her dismay she
received a "B". You could see the disappointment in her eyes. Yet
the student sitting next to Morgan received an "A" and Morgan
gently reached over and patted her on the back and quietly
whispered, "Way to Go!" When her friend asked Morgan how she had
done, Morgan simply responded by stating, "I did my best" and she
slowly slid the paper into her desk. Mrs. Thompson goes on to say
that on numerous occasions she has observed Morgan display such
acts of strong character. Thank you Morgan for Doing The Right
Thing.

Kyle Cooper
1st Grade Nations Ford ES
Ms. Hymes,
Kyle's teacher, states that he is a student who is always first to
help and give to other students. He is kind, caring and very aware
of others needs and feelings. Although Kyle lives in a nearby
shelter, and may not always have everything or as much as other
children, he is still able to look and reach out to others in
need. Ms. Hymes goes on to say that of Kyle has demonstrated the
maturity level of an older student. We want to thank you Kyle for

Deanna Fowler
5th Grade Clear Creek ES
Mr. Jaynes
states that Deanna is a very hard worker at school. She is very
polite to her peers and teachers. During Christmas, Deanna gave
presents to the sick children at a local hospital. She has helped
feed men at a local homeless shelter. Deanna goes out of her way
to speak and assist her neighbors while in the community. Mr.
Jaynes goes on to say that Deanna is definitely a role model and
has been an Honor Roll Student for the entire school year. Thank

Patrick McMahon
4th Grade Clear Creek ES
Mrs. Hambright
states that Patrick is an outstanding student, both academically and
behaviorally. An excellent role model for his peers. Patrick
volunteers at his school as a peer tutor and assist students with
special needs while in the classroom. He helps load and unloads his
handicapped sister, who is assisted by a wheelchair,
everyday. Patrick is extremely dependable and always has a huge
smile on his face. Thank you Patrick for Doing The Right Thing.

Redarius Davis
Kindergarten Druid Hills ES
Ms. Whitaker
states that Redarius has excelled academically from the very first
school day. Since the class setting is so diverse, there are
students that are in the class with various reading and writing
levels, some of them even have difficulty in writing their own
names. Redarius has stepped up to assist in the classroom by working
with his fellow students. Redarius's commitment to assist others is
demonstrated by his kindness and untiring devotion to work with
students who are struggling with the basics. Ms. Whitaker wants to
thank Redarius for setting a shining example for others to follow,
showing the class that we are all friends, and for Doing The Right
Thing.

Khadijah Douglas Sugar
Creek Charter School
Firefighter
Thornburg states that on May 18, 2001, multiple Charlotte Fire
Department Firefighters responded to an unknown fire on Cliffwood
Place in Charlotte. Firefighter Thornburg goes onto say that the
fire started as a result of a frying pan, which was full of grease
with flames incredibly close to the kitchen curtains. The fire was
quickly extinguished without any significant lose of property. While
at the scene it was later determined that Khadijah discovered fire
and quickly called 911 for immediate assistance. Khadijah's quick
thinking and doing the right thing at the right time, prevented a
severe tragedy. All of the Firefighters at Fire Station #2 and the
entire Charlotte Fire Department wish to take our hats off to
Khadijah for Doing The Right Thing.

Steven Ryle 3rd
Grade Ashley Park ES
Mrs. Ciccone
states that Steven is a shining example of character and citizenship
for others to follow. Steven volunteers to help the elderly citizens
in community as well as at church while preparing for church related
events. He visits a local nursing home and even takes the time to
sing to the residents. When at home, Steven assists his parents
daily yard work and by keeping his room neat and clean. Steven
participates in many sporting activities and is involved in the
church choir. Steven goes out of his way to assist others. He
assists elderly ladies while crossing the street. He shovels snow
and even gets the spiders and crickets which might be in the
house. We want to thank Steven for Doing The Right Thing.

Josh Trippier
3rd Grade Hawk Ridge ES
Ms. Miller
states that Josh is a marvelous student. He consistently
demonstrates the qualities of an outstanding citizen helping others
using manners, taking responsibility and showing initiative. Josh is
a turn-around success story. Josh used to be home-schooled because
of his difficulties with performance anxiety. Josh has overcome this
and has achieved honor roll status since returning to the public
school setting. Josh also serves as our Red Cross representative,
putting his outstanding citizenship skills to good use. We truly
wish to thank Josh for Doing The Right Thing.
